The film is based on the legends surrounding the Prague Rabbi Judah Löw and tells the Jewish legend of the Golem:
The Prague ghetto in the 16th century. When Rabbi Löw reads in the stars that disaster threatens the Jewish community, he creates a powerful clay figure, the Golem, following an old legend and brings it to life with magical powers.
