Suzanne Thorp studied singing at the University of Florida, USA, earning a Bachelor of Music degree and later a Diplom in Music, magna cum laude. She has been living and working in Germany since 1984. Thorp has had numerous engagements as a soloist, including at the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern, Theater Bielefeld, Salzburg Festival (1989–1991), Bach Festival in Klagenfurt, Meyerbeer Festival in Paderborn, and Pro Musica Festivals. She has also recorded opera for radio and television, with WDR and ORF.
Thorp has an extensive career as a soprano in concerts and oratorios/cantatas, with a particular focus on sacred music. She has performed in churches such as St. Aposteln and Rochuskirche in Cologne, Münsterkirche in Bonn, St. Antonius in Düsseldorf, Bottrop, Essen Cathedral, and Bad Bergzabern, as well as in numerous churches and philharmonic halls in Vienna, Rome, Paris, and London. She has also gone on concert tours throughout Germany and Europe, with a focus on both early and contemporary American composers.
Throughout her career, Suzanne Thorp has received numerous awards and honors, including the first prize at the NATS Voice Competition, first prize at the Mobile Opera Association, first prize at the Suncoast Opera Guild, and the Peschek Memorial Scholarship.
